I wrote a book in two months. *excited panic*

Disclaimer: I am going a bit crazy and trying to create things so I won’t go totally crazy, so you might see a lot more posts than the usual number. I am in quarantine for a bit and I am looking for things intentionally to help me lift my spirits, and writing, talking about writing and writing about writing has always been one of those things.

And almost a week later, I am still in complete awe.

Technically, it’s a novella. But still. It’s a book. But before I go into my process and everything, let’s go back to NaNoWriMo 2021.

I started talking about how I wanted to finish my 2021 project on my podcast in December, as I reflected on NaNoWriMo. I was ecstatic, ready, and full of energy when I decided to dust that Google Doc off and dive back in.

I sat my calendar down, flipped it to April, and marked “Finish Amy & McKenzie!” on the last day of April. I was confident that I was going to overdeliver, though, which I was completely right about.

Little did I know I was going to finish on January 8th, 2022, three weeks after vowing that I would spend time on the book everyday until I finished it.

Me holding my book the day I printed it out.

It is 125 pages long on 8.5×11 sized paper, but with all my formats (I’d like the book to be 5.06×7.81, from Amazon’s KDP website) it’s 180 pages. I haven’t yet went through it and started editing, as I’ve learned it’s best to wait a month to do things like that. Right now, I am focusing my attention on writing another novella. Not sure how long this one will be.

So…tell us what happened. we want to know.

I was at the library, a new one actually.

I immediately checked for computers, because if they had some, I wanted to try them.

I took some pics of the bookshelves, sat down, and then started working on a previous assignment I was working on. After I finished that (or maybe, while I was typing…) I found myself floating over to the search bar and going to google docs. I had been working on the book on my phone while on the way to the library, and when I came to the end of the chapter, I knew I was done.

I felt it.

In a binder next to my other books in my closet.

Overall, reflecting on the writing process, I can’t believe I actually wrote a chapter book. You don’t know how long I wanted to grow the skills to do something like this. I never thought I’d be able to accomplish something like this so soon.

(in the clippy) she is thickkk.

I’m not scared of sharing my ideas, so as the time goes on and I begin editing the book to actually turn it into a book on my shelf, I’ll of course post more about this project. Right now, as I’m taking a break from it, I’m just going to write another novel about Itachi Uchiha. (the creative juices are really flowing this year.)

Stay tuned for more updates!

Here’s a picture of me holding my baby. Yay!
