Five things I wouldn’t have been able to do if it weren’t for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s bravery and strength *Special post*

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr day!

Without a doubt, I am living in a generation of great privilege. The things my ancestors went through is nothing compared to the ease and access that I have to the things I love and enjoy. So I wanted to practice done humblenesd and write down five places and things I wouldn’t be able to explore had it not been for Dr. King who fought for the right for all races to be able to be together in one room and become friends, enemies—just a group of people who interact together in a normal and welcoming fashion.

#1: the mall

I wouldn’t be able to go and shop at my favorite places. I can’t even imagine the truth of where I’d be shopping if I couldn’t easily go to Burlington or Ross or another store freely.

#2: the library

I definitely wouldn’t be able to go look around at the library. At all. I would be kicked out, and this hurts me to think about because I absolutely love the library.

#3: i wouldn’t be working the job i have now

I wouldn’t be able to be eligible for promotions and have opportunities to grow mentally and emotionally. I wouldn’t have the wonderful boss that I have now, nor would I be able to process and assess how well I’m doing at my job because I’d be so overwhelmed and riddled with low-self esteem.

#4: i wouldn’t be able to use the internet probably

My cousin and I found the movie Our Friend, Martin on YouTube and the part of the movie where they show how the modern world was totally segregated because Dr King wasn’t there to perform the work he was supposed to do. I am forever thankful for Dr. King and his bravery!

#5: i wouldn’t be able to get a degree and improve my intellect

I wouldn’t be able to go to school and Purdue a greater education. I would just be slacking in life and in the things that I do.

So here are five things I wouldn’t be able to do without Dr King’s great strength. I am so thankful for the time I live in now and the things I am able to do.
